This is really a shocking news .
I have been dealing with this since may 2009. I understand that policy lapsed and the HDFC life never bothered to send someone to
collect the payment at that time even after a repeated request.
Instead they wanted me to run around 30 kilometers and make the payment, which i was unable to do. Thats when i decided
i am not continuing with the insurance policy anymore.
I have a few questions and i expect answer for them:
1. Why was i informed that i will get a refund after 3 year locking period, and when i contacted the helpline for the same i was assured of the same after the investigations were done.
2. On second instance i was informed that i will have to wait for 2 years after the lapsation to get the money back , whereas the policy document given to me never stated those terms.
3. refer to complaint number: 01000000119358. What were the bases i was promised a resolution of this issue ?
4. now for the new term, i have made it very clear since the beginning that i dont want to continue with the policy, i was never asked to fill up any form. More so, for the last two month i have registered the complaint , i was never asked to do so. Where is the new rule standing in that case ?, are you not trying to mislead a customer ?
5. are you not contradicting your statement that you have a locking period of 3 years and you wanted me to fill "option to withdraw" form a year and half ago ? Who are you kidding ?
6. coming to your internal assessment, how were you able to decide that i was not misled ?? The sales guy told me surrender charges would be 3%, you guys claimed later that it was 30%. Please confirm the same with Mr. Ikra with HDFC Kalyan Nagar branch.
and now the greatest shock that , you guys wont even pay anything out of what i paid as premiums. that is absolute cheating . For the last two months all i have been requesting is a refund and now , i am on the verge of my patience. I asked for the details of the person , who can take a legal notice for HDFC life and you are sending me this email that you wont pay anything.
I have copied this email to the top brasses of HDFC life, hoping that someone in that rank would be responsible enough to take a look at it and would be able to take a sensible decision.
For the time being, i have posted this whole thread on Facebook and other social networking sites for people to have a look at it and be aware of fradulant practices used by HDFC Life.

Dear Mr. Vishal,
We refer to your e-mail complaint dated November 19, 2010, wherein you have stated your apprehension that the aforesaid policy was incorrectly sold to you.
We apologise for the delay in resolving your e-mail complaint.
On conducting an internal assessment of your complaint, we have concluded that all the features and details of this plan were explained to you at the time of taking this policy. Hence, we are unable to treat it as a missale.
Further, as per the provision stated in ‘Option to Return / Withdraw’ of your policy document kit:
‘If the policyholder is not agreeable to any of the provisions stated in the policy and the details in the proposal form he / she has the option to return or withdraw the policy by stating the reasons thereof. This option is valid for a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the policy. Once we receive the letter along with the Original Policy Document we arrange for a refund.
The refund comprises of total premiums paid less:-
i) Stamp duty
ii) Decrease in the value of units
iii) Proportionate risk premium for the period on cover
A policy once returned cannot be revived, reinstated or restored at any point of time and a new proposal form has to be submitted for a new policy.’
As we have not received your cancellation request within this 15 days free-look period, we regret to inform you that we are unable to process a refund of premiums paid towards this policy.
We would further like to highlight that insurance is a long-term contract and it is mutually advisable to continue the policy till the end of term to reap the full benefits of the plan.
We confirm that as of today the policy is in ‘Lapsed’ status due to non-payment of renewal premiums which were due from 11/05/2009.
Hence we request you to revive the policy by paying the amount as mentioned below:
If you opt for a Direct Debit mode for paying your future premiums then the revival charge of Rs. 250/- will be waived off. Please find attached the Direct Debit Mandate which you may submit alongwith your written revival request, address proof and Id proof. Kindly visit our website www.hdfclife.com to know our branch addresses across India.
After due consideration of all facts & findings, the above given is the most feasible and appropriate response to your concern. We hope to have addressed your concern/ complaint. For any further assistance, please contact us at any of the touch points mentioned in the signature.

This is under investigaion for over 2 months now. Important thing is that no one has ever bothered to resolve this. Friday HDFC guys are coming to my company for a campaign. To start with i am forwarding this chain to my Finance Manager /HR manager and all the employees to stay away from HDFC . I dont want my colleagues to be cheated the same way i have been.

I am moving this case to a court of Justice, implication HDFC life for cheating and fradulant practices.

I got a couple of calls and all promises fo getting back to me on this ASAP. now you can see, another month has passed by without a resolution .
I would greatly appreciate if someone takes a little note of my frustration and works this out.
I am copying this email to IRDA as well, so that they can also have a look at it and sense of how a customer is treated by the insurance companies.

This is unfortunate and looks like no one has bothered to read my email before responding to it or you dont understand simple english.
The information which you are providing me now , is never mentioned in the information brochure which was given to me. Also, your people have been giving misleading information.
Here is what i want to do,
Please give me the details of the person responsible of receiving legal notices for your company. I am tired of your arrogant responses and I would like to move to consumer court plus send a notice to HDFC standard life for cheating customers.
I have had enough of it and unable cope up with it anymore. I am posting this chain of email on all possible medium (internet, TV, newspaper to let common people know that how your services are and why should they not invest with your company) if i am not receiving any response of this by monday evening.
Bottom line is , the lapsation period was never communicated to me, and i am not ready to wait for that. I need refund ASAP.

With regard to your e-mail, we would like to reiterate that the current status of your policy is lapsed due to the non payment of the premium due on 11/05/2009. We have mentioned below the effects of lapsed policy.

2) Fund value less surrender charge will be held in interest free account and will not be paid out to the policy holder.
If a lapse policy is not revived within 2 years from the date of lapsation of policy or 3 years from inception whichever is later, then money lying in interest free account will be refunded to the policy holder. You may view the same in the Policy Document under Standard Policy Provisions of lapsed, Paid Up & Surrender.

Hi,
I hope in my previous mail , i made it very clear that i decided to stay away from HDFC SLC due to your not so customer friendly policies. That was the sole reason i stopped paying the premiums for the same. Also , in my all conversations with your company, the 2 year from lapsation was never mentioned. Even the policy brochure i am given doesnt mention anything of that sort.
I have no intentions to go with HDFC SLC ever again and hence i would request for the refund at the earliest. I was informed about the three year lock up period only and i abided by that. Even during the last conversation with your service representative , he has agreed that i was given misleading communication.
Considering all these facts, i once again request you to process for a speedy refund otherwise i would be forced to move to consumer court or try other legal options.

Further, your online "My Account" facility is in "Active" status. Policyholders can use this facility to view the policy details, Premium Receipts, Annual Premium Statement and exercise the functionality of online transactions like Fund Switch/Premium re-direction/Unit Statements (for Unit Linked policies) and can also register themselves for e-mail/sms alerts etc.

Dear Sir,
This is regarding the refund for aforementioned policy with you. This policy was taken in October 2007 and lapsed in May 2009. I decided not to continue with this policy due to your non customer friendly services.
While communicating with your people , who called me to run around 30 kms from my house and get the policy revived after paying a fee, I was told that i will be getting my money back once the three year lock up period ends.
I called up today and now i am told that i will have to wait till its 2 years of lapsation, which is absolutely unacceptable. I have gone through your brochure and all other documents provided to me and its no where mentioned .
I would therefore, request you to work on this on priority and help me getting the refund as soon as possible.
